New Delhi : Sports of different kinds always attract students and general people in this over tensed and demanding time. In India, though cricket rules the roost, but other sports are also quite popular like Tennis, Football, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Wrestling and Basketball etc.

Basketball is one of the world’s most popular and widely viewed sports. It is also highly paid on the professional terms.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup and Men’s Olympic Basketball Tournament are the major international events of the sport and attract top national teams from around the world. Each continent hosts regional competitions for national teams, like Euro Basket and FIBA Ameri-Cup.

The North Zone Inter-University Basketball Tournament

Jamia MilliaIslamia, a central university by an act of parliament, has always been very keento promote sports on its lush green campus apart from its day to day academic activities. It has a state-of-the-art stadium for different such sports where the world class facilities have been provided to the aspiring sportspersons. It is this effort which helped the university in producing many world class players in the different games.

These days, a basketball interstate university tournament is going on with full zeal and enthusiasm in which more than four a dozen teams from the different universities of the country are taking part. It has given a name, The North Zone Inter-University Basketball Tournament (M) 2017-18. In total, there are 55 university teams in the fray. The final will be played on 8thDecember 2018, and the trophies and shields will be distributed by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Talat Ahmad on the last day.

This scintillating tournament was inaugurated on 2ndDecember by the university’s registrar, Mr. A.P Siddiqui (IPS).

Organizing such tournaments on this scale is not an easy task to achieve. For it, a lot of hard labor and astute planning goes into to make it a reality.

This is the outcome of the foresight and vision of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Talat Ahmad and his team, especially, the sports director, Prof. Iqtedar Ahmad Khan. His other team members equally deserve the praise like the organizing secretary, Prof. N.U Khan and the committee member, Dr. Asif Umar.

The whole tournament is divided into many pools like Pool A, B, C and D, and in every pool, there are about dozen university teams to fight and contest with their best playing skills on the ground.
